Hemp Oil is derived from industrial hemp, a type of cannabis Sativa plant. Unlike marijuana which is bred for its THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content — the element which gets you “high” — hemp oil has no psychoactive effects, but does still offer many health benefits.
History of Hemp Oil
Hemp has a varied and rich history. For example, it’s fiber is made into rope, twine and fabric. Historians have found evidence of hemp oil dates as far back as 1500 BC in India, China and the Middle East. Fast forward to the United Kingdom in the late 1800s… did you know that Queen Victoria was prescribed cannabis for menstrual pain? From 1850 to 1937, the U.S. Pharmacopoeia listed cannabis for its health and wellness benefits.
How do we get Hemp Oil?
The many different uses of hemp require either the plant’s fiber, seed, or flower. To make hemp oil products for consumer use, the hemp flowers (or buds), stalks, or seeds are harvested from the fibrous industrial hemp plants and the plant’s oil is extracted from each individual part. This oil can then be concentrated into full-spectrum hemp oil, which contains all the cannabinoids and terpenes found naturally in the plant, or it can be made into a CBD isolate which is pure CBD. The last option is broad-spectrum, which contains all the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, except THC.
What is Hemp Oil? What’s in it?
Hemp oil comes from the hemp plant, which is one of the varieties of the Cannabis sativa plant. Because of this, hemp contains the same cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in other strains of the cannabis sativa plant, including marijuanna. However, hemp is different because of the significantly lower levels of THC – the psychoactive component of marijuana.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of the cannabinoids found in hemp, along with cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), cannabinol (CBN), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and others. Each cannabinoid has a different effect on the body, some promote relaxation while others promote wakefulness. Full-spectrum hemp oil contains a natural mix of the cannabinoids that work together for fuller benefits. THC is known for its psychoactive effects, but those only occur with substantial servings, and full-spectrum CBD hemp oil only contains less than 0.3% THC. So our hemp oil products won’t get you high.
Hemp Oil Benefits
Now that you know what hemp oil is, let’s talk about the benefits. What is hemp oil used for? Hemp oil has been touted by researchers and doctors to be effective for its health supporting properties:
- promoting relaxation
- helping to relieve mild discomfort
- promoting healthy cardiovascular function
- promoting healthy cartilage and joint function
- providing positive mental support
- helping to improve mood
- helping to maintain a healthy immune system
- helping to remove impurities from the body
Hemp can also help revitalize the skin, which is why many people use hemp oil lotions and other skincare products. And hemp oil’s benefits don’t have to stop with you! Your furry best friends can also have the hemp oil benefits of promoted relaxation and mild discomfort relief.
How does it work?
The reason hemp oil has such a variety of effects on the body is the endocannabinoid system. Wait, what is that? The endocannabinoid system is a network of cannabinoid receptors that are found throughout the human body’s central nervous system. These cannabinoid receptors exist to interact with the endocannabinoids that the body produces naturally, which are a lot like the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. That’s right, your body produces its own cannabinoids! It’s magical because cannabinoids are naturally produced by only the body and the cannabis plant. It’s like cannabis was made for our bodies!
Many researchers and doctors revere its benefits. Most notably, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the chief medical correspondent for CNN, created a multi-part documentary entitled “Weed”. Based upon his research, Dr. Gupta changed his official stance on the medical benefits of marijuana, cannabis, and hemp. The documentary followed several stories on how hemp and cannabis had profound positive effects on health and well-being.
Other notable scientists and researchers have published data on the many health benefits, including the following:
- Dr. Ruth Gallily, professor emerita of immunology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, studied how a cannabis strain was rich in beneficial properties.
- Professor Mechoulam of Israel’s Weizman Institute of Science, was instrumental in getting a medical marijuana farm to develop a high cannabidiol and low-to-no THC strain of cannabis.
And this is only scratching the surface. New research studies on the benefits and uses of hemp and CBD oil are being conducted every day!

And Yes, Hemp Oil is Legal!
Our products contain Ultra Concentrated Hemp Oil and are completely legal to buy in almost all 50 states because they contain less than .3% of the psychoactive “high” ingredient THC. For the few states that don’t allow any THC, we offer THC-free versions of most of our products.
Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, all 50 states can grow hemp plants legally as long as they contain less than .03% THC. So although hemp is a type of cannabis plant, which may not always be legal, hemp itself remains legal if the THC percentages are kept in check. Some states may also legally allow medical marijuanna, but this is different from hemp oil because of the levels of THC found. Medical marijuanna will still provide the “high” effect that hemp oil will not.
